Social media is flooded with videos talking about the clean girl, minimalist aesthetic leaving and "mob wife era" entering the fashion and beauty scene for 2024. So for the millennials and older... what the heck does that mean??
EXTRA, EXTRA. Be more extra in 2024. Let me make it simple for you: mob wife era is nothing more than 80s bold glam. If you're a millennial, picture Jersey Shore, The Sopranos, or that one aunt that seemed to have a zoo's worth of (hopefully fake) animal print and fur coats. Complete with a full face of makeup and deep red lipstick stains on a wine glass. You always thought she was a badass and wished you had the nerve to speak up like she did, and maybe now, you are her. You know the aunt. If you're older, maybe I just described you... congrats, you're a trending icon.
Elements of Mob Wife Era
Too bold for the clean girl aesthetic, and you want to embrace the mob wife era? As someone who has embodied this trend for years without knowing it was a trend... here are some pieces you NEED to incorporate.
1. Animal Prints
Leopard, cheetah, zebra... You can learn a thing our two from The Cheetah Girls (and Josie and the Pussycats if you want to go back further). Pick an animal, pick a color, and rock it. Although if you want to keep it modern, stick to the neutrals to evolve seamlessly from the solid neutrals look of the past few years. Like an brown oversized faux leopard print coat.
2. All black... but add some texture.
I saw somewhere that the goal is to look like you're going to a funeral, which was hilarious to me. Please find who said that on Tik Tok so I can shower them with compliments and tag them. The trick is to throw in some leather, some velour, SOMETHING to stand out. Black suede thigh high boots? A must.
3. Designer Accessories
I'm talking gold, I'm talking bold, I'm talking let everyone know you're wearing Gucci/Versace/Burberry/Armani/YSL/LV/CHANEL... I can keep going, but hopefully you get it. Loud and proud, baby. Got some gold jewelry? Go a step chunkier. The designer belt has been in style for quite sometime, and designer bags are easy to pick, but when you do the designer glasses, the bigger the better. I'm telling you that when you're blocking out the haters, they can't even see your eyebrows, that's how big your sunglasses are... just my personal rule of thumb.

3. BOLD GLAM
Now I'm personally not the best at applying this makeup, so just watch the Tik Tok beauty icon @mikaylanogueira tell it to ya straight. You need to be so bronzed you look like you spent the entire summer in Ibiza but it's the middle of January. You need to find a lip so bold that your significant other is afraid to approach you out of fear that you'll turn him into a vampire. That's when you're doing it right. 4. Fur Coats
This is essential to the mob wife aesthetic, and because this has already been my style since day one... I'm going to say something maybe a little controversial. As someone who LOVES animals, grew up around them, dedicated my college career to them, and was gifted a family heirloom that may be a real fur coat (I never got it checked)... Sustainably-sourced authentic vintage fur coats (I'm talking the ones your grandma owned) will not make you a bad person.
We understand that overkilling any animal is bad, right? Cool, so we respect that manufacturing and selling new furs is becoming increasingly illegal, but we don't have to be ashamed about what already exists in our family and is being reused and recycled from decades ago (of course, the type of fur matters too). Don't have a fur coat already? Buy faux, then you can have any print or color that you want. Otherwise you better be doing your research.
5. The 'Tude
The last and most important element of entering your mob wife era is to demand some damn respect. Sometimes you'll come off as bitchy if you ask for what you want... what you need. We call it passion when we proudly used our full range of emotions. Why look the part if you're not going to back it up with a strong-willed mentality?
